Opportunity
to promote your stepfamily, marriage and family, or business - Submit employee recipes in your own section of
the StepfamilySystems.com What's Cookin' At Home Cookbook FUNDRAISER! We are looking for family
favorites: beverages, desserts, main dishes, salads, everything! Send up to two recipes with a memory paragraph to StraightTalk@StepfamilySystems.com. Example: .
From the kitchen of Robert and Cleo Hope
Category: Desert
Name: Died and Gone to Heaven
Cake
1 can Eagle Brand Condensed milk, 1 Lg can
Cream of Coconut, 1 Lg can Angel Flake Coconut, 1 Sm Cool Whip, 1 box White or Yellow cake mix
Bake cake according to box directions.
Cook in 9 X 13 pan. Poke holes with fork, pour on Eagle Brand Condensed Milk, then Cream of Coconut. When cool, frost with
Cool Whip. Top with coconut and store in the refrigerator.
This recipe came from the kitchen of Robert's Aunt Doris Redfearn, Paris, TX.
After his mother's death, Aunt Doris almost became his stepmother. She loved and comforted him, always making him
feel warm, fed and precious. His father took him back, without consulting him, a few years after finding a new wife
during the Great Depression. Robert never felt like a rejected, "red headed stepchild" and vowed to love his stepsons
as his own while respecting their love for their deceased father. Well loved, his oldest stepson reserved the term of endearment "dad"
for his biological father. Robert respected his choice and never pushed being called dad. His youngest stepson
called him "Papa". Robert never truly got over the loss of his mother, but he learned to love and adore his stepmother,
whom he called "mom" and he never considered any of his varied siblings - step, whole or half - as anything
other than his brothers and sisters. This he shared is what helped to accept his new family structure. Every time this cake
was made his heart and mind drifted back to the time his Aunt and Uncle took him in and showed him unconditional love.
